Why I’m Running for Montgomery County Auditor
Property tax transparency is one of the biggest concerns I hear everywhere I go in Montgomery County. Whether I am attending a city council meeting, speaking with homeowners, or meeting with seniors living on fixed incomes, the message remains the same: people want answers.
They want to know why their property taxes keep increasing. They want to understand where their money goes. Most importantly, they want a system that makes sense.
Unfortunately, too many taxpayers struggle to find clear information. Instead of receiving straightforward answers, they often encounter complicated calculations, outdated systems, and information that feels difficult to access. As a result, frustration continues to grow.
After spending more than 25 years helping buyers, sellers, investors, military families, and homeowners navigate important financial decisions, I understand how much property taxes matter. In fact, property taxes affect nearly every real estate transaction.
For example, when a family applies for a mortgage, lenders calculate property taxes as part of the monthly payment. Higher taxes can reduce purchasing power, limit housing options, and increase financial stress. Yet buyers have very little control over a major expense that directly affects their ability to own a home.
That simply doesn’t make sense.
Why Property Tax Transparency Matters
Property tax transparency is not just about making information available. Instead, it is about making information understandable.
Taxpayers deserve clear answers regarding:
- How property values are determined
- How tax rates are calculated
- Where tax dollars are distributed
- Which levies affect their tax bill
- What exemptions may be available
- How changes in value impact future taxes
Furthermore, residents should not need to spend hours searching multiple websites just to understand a tax statement.
Today, we live in a world where information is available instantly. We can check bank accounts, monitor investments, and manage businesses from a smartphone. Therefore, taxpayers should also have access to accurate, easy-to-understand property tax information.
Montgomery County Can Do Better
I believe Montgomery County has an opportunity to modernize the Auditor’s Office and improve how information reaches the public.
Rather than expecting residents to navigate complicated systems, the office should focus on helping people find answers quickly.
That means embracing technology, improving communication, and making transparency a priority rather than an afterthought.
In addition, the Auditor’s Office should actively educate residents about property values, assessments, exemptions, and tax-related issues. When people understand the process, they gain confidence in the system.
More importantly, they gain trust.
Service Before Politics
My campaign is not built around politics. Instead, it is built around service.
Throughout my career, I have advocated for property owners, homeowners, military families, seniors, and residents across our communities. I have listened to concerns, helped solve problems, and worked to make complicated processes easier to understand.
Those experiences taught me an important lesson: leadership begins by listening.
That is why I have spent months attending community meetings across Montgomery County. Rather than making assumptions, I wanted to hear directly from residents. As a result, I have gained a deeper understanding of the challenges facing our communities today.
Time and again, people tell me they want government to be more accessible, more transparent, and more responsive.
I agree.
A New Perspective for Montgomery County
For more than two decades, Montgomery County has operated under the same leadership in the Auditor’s Office. While experience certainly has value, every organization benefits from fresh ideas and a willingness to embrace change.
Today, taxpayers face challenges that did not exist twenty years ago. Rising housing costs, increasing property values, affordability concerns, and rapidly changing technology require a modern approach.
That is why I am running for Montgomery County Auditor.
I believe taxpayers deserve an advocate who understands property ownership, appreciates financial challenges, and remains committed to transparency.
Most importantly, I believe the Auditor’s Office should work for the people it serves.
