Throughout my life, I’ve asked the same question: How can I make things better?

Sometimes that means asking hard questions. However, it often means listening first and learning along the way.

The experiences that shaped me most did not come from a single job or title. Instead, they grew from the many roles life placed before me.

By far, the most rewarding role of my life has been being a mom.

Raising three amazing sons has taught me patience, resilience, humility, and joy in ways nothing else could. Our journey included struggles, challenges, and countless fun-filled adventures. Through each stage, I grew into a stronger and more thoughtful person.

Being a mother also taught me how deeply decisions affect others. More importantly, it showed me the value of showing up consistently and listening with love.

Because of this, the role of being a mom grounded everything that came after.

As a small business owner and entrepreneur, I learned early that real work often happens quietly — without recognition and without shortcuts.

Success isn’t about titles. Instead, it comes from everyday actions such as:

  • Showing up prepared
  • Paying attention to details
  • Following through
  • Going above and beyond because it’s the right thing to do

Working directly with clients taught me how essential trust is. Over time, I learned that trust grows through consistency, honesty, and careful attention to people’s needs.

Through community involvement and volunteer service, I found a new voice within myself.

Along the way, I realized that many people:

  • Aren’t comfortable speaking up
  • Don’t always know where to turn
  • Or simply need someone willing to listen and help navigate the process

Advocacy doesn’t always mean being the loudest voice in the room. Sometimes it means listening carefully, asking thoughtful questions, and helping others feel heard, compassion, and respect.

Life doesn’t always follow the plans we make.

When my mother’s health unexpectedly declined, my role as a daughter changed into that of a caregiver. During that time, many of the things I thought I understood about systems, care, and support were suddenly questioned.

That season of life challenged me deeply, and it continues to shape who I am today.

I’m still working on myself after her loss. However, I know the best way to honor her memory is by showing up for others with empathy, patience, and care—especially during moments of uncertainty.

Together, these experiences shaped how I approach service and leadership today.

Carrying These Roles Forward

Finally, each role — mother, business owner, advocate, daughter — has shaped how I listen, how I lead, and how I approach responsibility. For that reason, I believe leadership should always begin with listening.

Over time, those experiences have taught me that:

  • People deserve clarity
  • Questions deserve respect
  • Service is most meaningful when it is rooted in compassion

Public service does not exist apart from these lessons. Instead, they guide how I approach responsibility and leadership.
